CRB Celebration on Lake Michigan

CRB students, postdocs, faculty, and staff enjoyed lab fellowship and a beautiful early October day on a lunch cruise of Lake Michigan, courtesy of a recent gift to the CRB by lab alum Mike Hwang and his wife Yijun Zhang.

Mike was a major contributor to the lab's swarm robotics research. His 2009 EECS MS thesis, advised by Kevin Lynch and Randy Freeman, focused on distributed estimation and formation control for an experimental swarm of small wheeled robots. He credited the skills he obtained during his thesis work with helping him to land his first job, at SpaceX. After eight years at SpaceX, Mike left for Apple, and currently he is working on a startup developing small autonomous submarines.

The most impactful thing that the CRB does is produce outstanding people and engineers, and it is particularly gratifying when a grateful former student supports the current students. Thank you Mike and Jojo!
